The pageant was preceded by a meeting where Miss Universe Thailand Director Nawat _Itsaragrisil was seen on screen publicly insulting and berating Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, calling her a “stupid head.” It was Bosch’s reaction that prompted the calling of security, who then escorted her out of the meeting room, silence being the weapon of choice of her fellow contestants, while they staged a walk-out in solidarity with Bosch.
The pageant was also intended for pageant fans, however the backlash was widespread, including Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum who publicly chastised _Itsaragrisil’s behavior calling it an act of aggression, which Bosch handled in a very dignified manner.
Nawat’s role in the Miss Universe Organization _was also restricted and a public statement of disapproval issued.

Further contributing to the backlash, a live stream on Instagram by former Miss Universe _Alicia Machado made incendiary comments of a racist nature regarding the _incident which were condemned and criticized widely.
Judges Quit, Claiming the Pageant is Rigged
On the final day of the Pageant two judges resigned abruptly, only days before the conclusion of the pageant.
Composer Omar Harfouch has accused Miss Universe of having a secret panel select the top 30 contestants. However, this is something the organization denies. The MUO stated that the judging is done openly, and within the guidelines of the organization.
Also on that day, former French football star Claude Makélélé stepped down citing personal reasons, while still expressing his esteem for the pageant.
This is in the wake of significant changes in the top tier of the organization earlier this year, which has included the departure of Thai media mogul, Anne Jakrajutatip, and the hiring of new CEO Mario Búcaro.
