New Character Largo the Frog Bard Has Been Released in Dota 2 Update 7.40.
In July 2023, Dota 2 released a brand new hero to the game, with the first-ever bard. Playing a large role in this hero’s addition is the constant demand from the Dota 2 player base, and player requests and concept creations from communities like in the “Dota 2 Mods” section of the “Steam Workshop” to Valve. Largo the Frog Bard is a tank for the team and a damage dealer. Largo uses a mechanic involving the Dispel status ailment. Largo’s character acts as a soft counter to the protagonist of the game, Techies.
Largo the Bard the New Frog Character
The player base has for years requested a “frog bard,” and Largo is the character to fulfill the demand. Largo has a focus on supporting friends and counterplaying foes with a center aimed around the usage of enemy protection barriers. Largo is meant to counter the single tanky melee support Bard character through the use of damage absorption. Largo uses a mixture of melee damage and support ultimates.
The current player, and his popularity peas to continue to grow with his current ult and team composition. “Q: Tongue Lasso” Largo yanks in an enemy and damages the target as well as dispelling all protections while “W: Dance Off” hinders the buffed and enemy targeted character’s ability to move for a certain duration.
- E Ability: A passive buff that makes allies cost less mana and deals damage that echoes for a short time.
- Ultimate: This is the centerpiece of his design. Largo disables his weapon and begins a rhythm-action minigame. For every note he hits in sync with the background music, the entire team receives one of a number of possible buffs such as healing, movement speed, or increased damage on spells for a duration.
Meta Overhaul: Items and Reworks
As for the new hero, Update 7.40 comes with tremendous changes to the rest of the game. Three legacy heroes, Lone Druid, Slark and Treant Protector, have received major reworks. In addition to that, the map received structural changes, and a new rotation of neutral items has been released.
As for players, some of the most annoying neutral items have been permanently removed, namely Helm of the Undying, Sister’s Shroud, and Pyrrhic Cloak.
Impact on the Pro Scene
This patch comes out in the middle of the ongoing Dream League, which is going to be chaotic for pros. Valve has also changed the Captain’s Mode Pick and Ban order, one of the most fundamental changes to drafting, which will affect players’ drafting and general strategy even more.
Cosmetics and Events
New systems and mechanics were implemented in the last update; however, old content remains in place. Currently, the Monster Hunter crossover event is live, and new cosmetics are available in a Collector’s Cache treasure.
Despite the wait, Valve has managed to end 2025 on a positive note, providing Dota 2 players with plenty to do for the rest of the year.
