An Early End to Curry Travel Stretch
Heat vs warriors, MIAMI — Stephen Curry long road with the Golden State Warriors is cut short. The team has decided to rest the NBA all-time 3-point king for Wednesday night Clash with the Miami Heat as the team has chosen to hold him out for right ankle soreness.
Curry first tweaked the injury during the team game against San Antonio on Friday and aggravated it during the team Wednesday game against the Magic in Orlando. Despite the trait, Curry has managed to finish both games, but with the Warriors nearing the end of the trip, it was decided that caution needed to be the priority.
Injuries Take a Toll on Golden State Lineup
With over double digit traveling over the last 9 days, Miami wraps up the NBA 3 longest road games with all 3 of these games played on the weekend, being Miami game with the Warriors 3rd in the traveling line up. Curry is over double digit in traveling, being the only warrior out of not these 3 games.
Warriors and Heat both have key players also on the fence. Al Horford left the team with a left toe injury, as well as Jonathan Kuminga who left to rest for knee tendonitis.
Probable:
Jimmy Butler (back),
Draymond Green (illness),
Buddy Hield (illness).
The Price of a Packed Schedule
Kerr has talked about how difficult this stretch has been due to the schedule.
Kerr compared the recent schedule to tuesday loss against Orlando.
“We’ve been alright. Been a tough few weeks to get through, but we’ve been alright overall. I think we let go of a few games that we should’ve won, but overall, we’ve been alright.
By the time the Warriors see the Miami Heat, the team will have:
17 games in 30 days (most in the league),
12 of those games were in the air (also a league high).
For comparision, the toronto raptors were just in their 10th road game on wednesday. The new york knicks were also just on their 5th road game of the season.
- Kerrs Longstanding Call for a Shorter NBA Season
Kerr has talked about how he would like to see the regular season cut down to 72 games. Although he knows that this change might be difficult to accomplish but the long stretches like this will only strengthen his arguement.
He found that while the NBA has cut out the dreaded four games in five nights stretch, the downside has turned into a sort of constant ‘every other night’ pattern with no recovery – and no time for practice.
“We’ve been gone for eight days and not had a single practice,” Kerr said.
“There no recovery, no practice, just game after game. There wear and tear, it a cumulative effect – the pace, the speed, the mileage.”
